Belfast Charitable Institution, Clifton Street, Belfast

Irish Georgian style group with central 2 storey pedimented red-brick block flanked by 1 storey wings with gabled end pavilions. Central tall octagonal stone tower and spire. Sash windows with stone cills and central pedimented entrance doorcase with attached Doric columns at head of stone steps. Robert Joy drew up plans after competition entries were rejected. Board member John Kennedy of Cultra offered free stone and sand from his estate quarry. Front range was extended to sides (1821 & 1825) and rear (1867 & 1871)
