Carlingford Limestone

Carlingford Limestone is a grey Carboniferous limestone which weathers well and contains visible fossils. It was quarried around the South side of Carlingford Lough, particularly between Rockland and Greenore and at Ballyagan Point. It was used in the construction of the Newry canal network in the 1700’s and can be seen at Victoria Locks, Newry.
