Local Ordovician Granite

Pink granite of Ordovician age occurs in several areas of County Tyrone and part of Londonderry, most notably near Moneymore and the Pomeroy/Beragh area. It is very course grained with large crystals of alkali feldspar, plagioclase, quartz and biotite. It is rarely seen on buildings in Northern Ireland but does occur on the Former Waterside Railway Terminus, Londonderry and various buildings in Tyrone.
