Smootherfly Sandstone

Smootherfly Sandstone is Carboniferous in age (354 to 290 million years old) and was taken from a colliery in Alfreton, Derbyshire. The Colliery is now closed and filled in. It is a buff sandstone that weathers brown due to iron content and was used in Brownlow House Lurgan as replacement stone to match the original Binny Sandstone.
