Springwell Stone

Springwell Sandstone is Carboniferous in age (354 to 290 million years old) and still actively quarried at Springwell Quarry, Gateshead where it has been quarried since the early 1900’s. It is a uniform, buff to yellow, medium grained, micaceous sandstone which is used throughout the United Kingdom as stone replacement and on new builds.
