Swedish Granite

Several types of red granite (orthogneiss) are quarried in Sweden in the regions of Smaland and Bohuslan, trade names include Imperial or Gotic Red, Red Bohus, Vanga Red (also known as Rosso Vanga), Hallandia and Kasinge. Most of these varieties are orthogneisses (metamorphosed granites) of Pre-Cambrian age (over 545 million years old) and have been used worldwide including several buildings in Belfast e.g. Scottish Provident Building.
