Both active and inactive quarries throughout Northern Ireland are included in the Natural database and were possible overgrown quarries were located, photographed, inspected and samples taken. All quarries visited are included on this website. Samples were taken from all quarries visited and a referenced collection of hand specimens and thin sections (thin slices of each rock type to view with a microscope) is maintained by the Project Team. The Quarries are classified by County.

Samples from each quarry were also taken for Stone Testing following BS EN Standards.
