Savoy Serpentine Marble


 

Savoy Marble is Jurassic in age (around 200 million years old) and it is still actively quarried in the Aime region of Savoy, France where it has been quarried periodically since Roman times. There are 3 main varieties of Savoy Marble; Blue (Blue Savoy/Savoie de Bleu), black with white veins (Alpine Black) and grey (Grey de Villette), all are very hard-wearing with a porosity of around 0.2 %. Examples of use include the George V Hotel, Paris and the Empire State Building
