Balmoral Granite

Balmoral Granite (also known as Finlandia Red) is an ancient rock type that formed during the Pre-Cambrian more the 540 million years ago. The granite orginates from South-West Finland but was known as 'Balmoral Granite' due to the fact that it was shipped to the UK via Balmoral in Scotland. The granite is still actively quarried in Finland: the fine-grained variety at Vehmaa and the course-grained type at Taivassalo.

It is a hard, durable stone with a distinctive red-pink colour and may contain occasional xenoliths. It is used widely for decorative stonework on buildings and memorials throughout the UK because of its distinctive colour and durability
