Blaxter Sandstone is Carboniferous in age (354 to 290 million years old) and is still actively quarried near Otterburn, Northumberland where it has been quarried since the 1890's. It is a buff to yellow, medium grained, non-calcareous sandstone which has a porosity of approximately 20%. It is used throughout the United Kingdom as stone replacement and on new builds
