Imported Permo-Triassic Sandstone

Permian and Triassic sandstones formed between 290 and 200 million years ago when the United Kingdom was much closer to the equator. Under the prevailing desert conditions, flood events deposited sand and silt to produce sandstones and mudstones. Because of these climatic conditions Permo-Triassic sandstones exhibit a wide range of colours from red and pink to buff (covered in Buff-Pink Sandstone)
