Fermanagh Carboniferous Sandstone


Carboniferous sandstones from County Fermanagh are all part of the Tyrone Group and building stones extracted from a variety of quarries throughout the county sample sandstone from the Ballyness, Topped Mountain, Mullaghmore and Carnmore Sandstone Formations. Ballyness and Topped Mountain Sandstone are listed separately.

Mullaghmore Sandstone

Pale grey calcareous fine to medium grained sandstone weathers to orange colour.

Carnmore Sandstone 

Greyish fawn medium to coarse grained pebbly sandstone. Two main quarries are known: Carnmore Quarry, Carnmore Lough, Rosslea and Eshbralley Quarry near Lisnaskea.
