Donegal Sandstone

Carboniferous sandstone also outcrops in County Donegal and the Mountcharles Sandstone of the Mullaghmore Sandstone Formation was used for construction of some buildings in Northern Ireland (Star Factory in Derry City and Clonard Church in Belfast).

The Mullaghmore Sandstone from Donegal is distinctive in terms of colour. Colours are quite bright yellow and rust orange varieties due to the oxidation of iron during weathering
