Darney Sandstone is Carboniferous in age (354 to 290 million years old) and still actively quarried at West Woodburn, Nortumberland. It is a cream to buff,  fine to medium grained sandstone which has a porosity of approximately 5%. It is used throughout the United Kingdom as stone replacement and on new builds
