
Doddington Sandstone
Doddington Sandstone is a Carboniferous sandstone (354 to 290 million years old) of the Fell Sandstone group. It is still actively quarried near Wooler, Northumberland where it has been quarried periodically since the early 1800's and more constantly since the early 1950's. It is a fine to medium grained sandstone ranging in colour from light to deep purplish-pink with occasional red or cream varieties. It has a porosity of approximately 15% and is used throughout the United Kingdom as stone replacement and on new builds
