Wattscliffe Sandstone


 

Wattscliffe is a Millstone Grit sandstone, Carboniferous in age (354 to 290 million years old) and still actively quarried at Elton, Derbyshire. Wattscliffe is a freestone and the quarry is able to produce some of the largest block sizes available in the UK. It ranges in colour from grey to pink and lilac with occasional buff varieties. It is a fine to medium grained, micaceous sandstone which has a porosity of approximately 17%. It is used throughout the United Kingdom as stone replacement and on new builds
