Local Permian Limestone

The Late Permian (around 250 million years old) Belfast Group outcrops along the South shore of Belfast Lough and consists of pale yellow dolomitic limestone and pale purplish red marl, the former of which was quarried on the shoreline until the late 18th Century and is occasionally seen on local buildings
