Remains of town wall and North gate. Un-coursed basalt rubble walls. North Gateway has one tall arch for vehicles and a smaller pedestrian arch. Top of arch ‘restored’ with battlements, coursed plain ashlar with carved coat of arms.

Stonework Condition:Basalt is in good condition but sandstone shows some evidence of deterioration through loss of surface material and some historic corner deterioration of sandstone blocks associated with the use of a ‘hard’ mortar.

Condition Assessment (QUB):Stage 2 – Section specific remedial action is required but the extent of intervention should be limited because of the lack of distant involvement within façade boundaries.
