Former Public Baths

  •   18 Ormeau Road, Belfast

Classical style red-brick building with sandstone dressings. Central block with 2 side wings which were former swimming baths. Carved pediment to central block, central section flanked by rounded arch entrances at either side with balconies above, carved spandrels above door arches and carved panels in centre of façade. Segmental arch windows on ground floor, less arched on first. Long wing extends from either side, fronting former pool halls. Tall brick chimney in centre behind front block.

    Sandstone blockwork is in reasonable condition but with evidence on all façades of surface roughening with isolated examples of individual blocks showing evidence of surface deterioration and loss of architectural detail.
  • Condition Assessment (QUB):
    Stage 2 – Section specific remedial action is required but the extent of intervention should be limited because of the lack of distant involvement within façade boundaries.
