Buff-Pink Sandstone

We use the term ‘Buff-Pink’ Sandstone as a general expression to cover building sandstones that are usually pale buff yellow to pink in colour but can range to pinker/purple varieties. For the most part, these sandstones are Carboniferous in age (330 million years ago) for most local and imported varieties, although some local buff and pink sandstones such as Scrabo are Triassic in age (230 Ma). ‘Buff-Pink’ sandstones are usually cemented with clay minerals, iron and quartz.
