Duke’s Sandstone

Duke’s Sandstone is an English Carboniferous sandstone of the Millstone Grit Series which has been widely used as a building stone in England since the 19th Century and probably before that time. Duke’s Sandstone is still actively quarried in Derbyshire and has been used as repair or replacement work and in new-builds across Northern Ireland.

Duke’s Sandstone is a medium grained sandstone with clearly defined bedding and lamination features. It is buff to pink in colour and is a durable sandstone that typically weathers gradually through granular disintegration.
