York Sandstone

York Stone is a general term referring to Carboniferous (354 to 290 million years old) sandstone quarried (actively) in Yorkshire, particularly West Yorksire around Bradford, Halifax and Huddersfield. ‘York Stone’ includes Woodkirk, Crosland Hill, Moorfield, Fagley and Bolton Wood Sandstones among others. It ranges from buff to grey or brown and is fine to coarse grained with a porosity range of approximately 8-10%. It is used throughout the United Kingdom as stone replacement, paving and on new builds
