West Church, Ballymena

Large Gothic style church with large church hall built on in the 1920’s in same style. Church consists of nave with pitched slate roof, North and South double gabled transepts. In SW corner is an octagonal bell tower and stone spire. Built in basalt rubble with sandstone dressing on the older part. Cast stone dressings on the hall.

    Basalt stonework is in good condition but some sandstone detailing shows evidence of discoloration and minor deterioration with some flaking and granular disintegration resulting in surface roughening.

    Stage 2 – Section specific remedial action is required but the extent of intervention should be limited because of the lack of distant involvement within façade boundaries.
