Devonian Sandstone (Cross Slieve Group)

The Devonian Cross Slieve Group of County Antrim tends to be coarser grained and redder in colour than the purplish grey Devonian sandstones of County Tyrone. Clasts are often visible, these consist mainly of quartzite but can also be schist or welded tuff. The Cross Slieve Group also tends to weather less harshly, demonstrating granular disintegration rather than scaling.
