Gabbro

Gabbro is a coarse-grained igneous rock formed when molten magma cools deep beneath the surface, small pockets of gabbro are exposed across Northern Ireland.

Imported gabbro (known as ‘Black Granite’ or ‘Belfast Black’) is used as polished stone on many memorials and shop fronts. The gabbro was often imported from South Africa and is still used today.
