Former Robinson & Cleaver Building

  •   56 Donegall Square North, Belfast

High Victorian Classical style, 6 storey warehouse of Scrabo Sandstone with ground floor shop-fronts of polished red Scottish granite. First floor channelled with pediments over windows, broken by ball finials. Windows all tripartite, separated by pilasters. Balustraded parapet, terminated by octagonal turrets and a circular clock tower. Each turret has a tall copper dome.

    Sandstone blockwork is in reasonable condition but with some evidence of isolated stone block deterioration and surface loss through flaking and granular disintegration.

    Stage 1 – A façade in this condition will only require localised remedial treatment concentrating on individual blocks. Stage 1 classification may also indicate that no intervention is needed with only periodic re-assessment of the façade is recommended.
